The New Delhi station has never been known for comfort. Finding a spot to rest that’s not hard, dirty and uncomfortable has always been impossible.

To remedy the situation, IRCTC recently opened an Executive lounge, located at Platform 16 on the Ajmeri Gate side of the station. They say it’s world class, but I haven’t seen it yet, so I can’t vouch for that.

The cost is Rs300 for 3 hours, and Rs125/hour for each additional hour. They have more comfortable seating (though the couches really don’t look all the comfy in the photo), including recliners; WiFi; newspapers and magazines; food and beverages; as well as a convenience store and a business center. You can shower and change for Rs175, which is something I expect to be making use of, as I all too often come in on overnight trains.

This is something they should put in at all the major stations. It’s a bit pricey by Indian standards, but it will certainly be worth it to many people.
