For a long time, I thought that chikkus were some sort of potato. They certainly look like potatoes, though if you pick up a ripe one, it’s a bit soft. Then someone brought me some in a basket of fruit. Intrigued, I cut it open with a knife and found that it was light brown inside with some large black seeds. A little taste and I was hooked. They are now one of my favorite fruits. The taste sort of resembles brown sugar.
You eat them like you would a kiwi, scooping out the inside with a spoon. Just make sure they are ripe. Unripe chikkus are not appealing.
