Ladakhis have only a couple of months before winter sets in to get new homes built for all the people who lost their homes in the flash floods that devastated this fabulous region a few weeks ago. Winters in Ladakh are brutal, reaching temperatures of -30° or more. Here’s a link that lists several reliable organizations that are working on the relief effort.

This used to be the Leh bus stand. All the buses and taxis that were there were swept away, along with many people, homes, businesses, the radio station, an army camp, etc. Part of the hospital was also severely damaged. Some of the buildings that used to be next to the bus stand were totally washed away. Ladakhi buildings are mostly made of sun-dried bricks that are not designed to withstand much water.

Please help, if you can.
